The Mid-Atlantic LeatherSIR/Leatherboy/Leather Woman/Community Bootblack Contest, produced by Hooker & Boys, was held in Baltimore, MD on March 16, 2013. The contest was part of Chesapeake Leather Awareness & Pride IV (C.L.A.P.), a weekend of events in Baltimore.

Friday night’s event was a Meet-n-Greet, hosted by C.O.M.M.A.N.D. MC at the Triple L bar.  Saturday’s contest was held at Baltimore’s Club Hippo. Danny Tamez of New Jersey and Baltimore’s infamous Shawnna Alexander emceed the event, along with ASL interpreters Deb Jones and Susan Weinstein. The event was dubbed “An Old-Fashioned Bar Contest.“Several younger attendees mentioned, “I’ve never been to an Old- Fashioned Bar Contest before!”

The Color Guard for the event was led by Doc-American Leather Woman 2012, Ruin Awaits-International Community Bootblack 2012, and boy Bamm Bamm-International Leatherboy 2012. They were joined by boy marshall-International Leatherboy 2006, boy ivan-International Leatherboy 2004, and boy richard-International Deaf Leather 2012 – on the American, Canadian, Leather, Rainbow, Boy, and Bear flags, respectively.  The state flags of the Mid-Atlantic region were presented by members of the newly formed Maryland Boys of Leather. This was MBoL’s first public appearance. The Canadian and U.S. national anthems were sung by MBoL member, Matthew Smith.
The Parade of Club Colors included the Jersey Amazons, Jersey boys of Leather, Three Rivers Leather Club (Pittsburgh), Philadelphia Leather Alliance, F.I.S.T., Centaur M.C., Shipmates of Baltimore, Panther L/L Atlanta, Hooker & Boys, and the Bootblack Brigade.

The Victory Dinner was hosted by Sir John Krikorian and held at the Maritime Institute in Linthicum Heights, MD. The Victory Bar Night was back at Baltimore’s Triple L, hosted by the Maryland Boys of Leather. On Sunday, a Kinky Karnival FUNdraiser was hosted by F.I.S.T. Women and MBoL. A combined total of over $2k was raised at these events for the titleholders’ travel funds. Hooker & Boys is once again humbled by the generous donations and support that make this work possible.

The 14th Annual 12 Days of Christmas raised a total of $13,200.00, which was an increase over last year. This breaks down to $3,300.00 going to each of four beneficiaries: AIDS Action Baltimore, Scott Stanford Fund; Audrey Herman Spotlighters Theatre for their ADA construction project; the House of Mercy HIV Hospice of North Carolina, Resident Wish List Fund; and theCreative Alliance of Baltimore’s youth program.
